Rational: This text provides an excellent source of grammar knowledge. There are 99 pages of clear direction on the rules of grammar which anybody can use. Completely free and available on a whim… gotta love that internet. Seriously, I wish I had discovered this when I was in middle school. I would have used this text as a resource throughout my academic career. That is what I wish to provide to students: the resources I wish I’d had. 
Outline: In order to avoid essentially copying the table of contents, I’ll address a broad view of this book. One wonderful tool provided with this book is its table of contents. It is clear and unscrambled direction designed to bring the reader directly to the topic they need to review. Each lesson contains multiple examples. There are even a few hyperlinks to online quizzes related to specific elements of grammar. This particular edition is quite comprehensive, though not entirely. 
Teaching Ideas: I could freely utilize this book as a tool for teaching grammar in the classroom. Many of the graphs within the book contain the potential to serve as an outline for exercise worksheets. Simply white out some of the spaces within the graph and have the students fill in the blank. This would help me, as the teacher, to find the specific areas where certain students are having trouble. This book serves as a prime example of knowledge, or collection of data. Since intelligence is not the holding of knowledge, but the ability to access such knowledge, this book may serve as an example in that very lesson. 

Challenges: Book is entirely supplemental to an actual series of lessons and exercises. Although there is much to be learned from this text, there remains a degree of true acquisition to be attained in the realm of grammar.  I would never expect somebody to muddle through all those pages without a guide. There’s a large degree of practicing which goes along with grammar acquisition as well. Despite its benefits, this text cannot replace a grammar class.

Reading Journal 2

Grant Wengeler Dr. Torgensen  1/29/2020 Reading Journal #2 On Harriet Martineau’s Illustrations of Political Economy including Demerara This work as a whole was quite a daunting amount of reading and the sheer amount led me into immediate panic. I already have hours of reading required by other classes, plus a job I must work in order to keep a roof over my head. Yet, I still managed to finnish this reading at the cost of much sleep. Due to intense sleep deprivation my memory of these works is shrouded as if a hallucination, but some scenes really stuck with me.  First of all, I was particularly drawn to the tale of Demerara and the strife of the slaves. It reminded me heavily of the journals of Fredrick Douglass and Harriet Beecher Stowe’s Uncle Tom’s Cabin- both of which I’ve read before. EDUC 303 Journal 2

1.    On a personal level (for example, as a student - in my case, as a parent) how do you feel about standards? 2.  As a future teacher, how do you view content learning standards? 3.  What did you learn about deconstructing standards and how confident are you about being able to do so? Answers: I'm not a parent, or a teacher (yet). As a student I recognize now how the common core state standards have shaped my education and I'm honestly thankful for it. I was always held to a certain standard to ensure my continued academic development. I think it's important to have such standard in order to make sure that every student is given the same opportunity for good education. Otherwise, we'd end up with students in some areas being less educated than those in others, and that can lead to issues.  As a future teacher I read these standards under the guise of "what will be expected" when I'm on the job.
